Built in 1976, Almerimar is the oldest course in Almeria and was designed by Rob Kirby and Gary Player and was originally just 18 holes. 9 holes were then added to make it possible to improve the original 18 holes in phases respecting the original design throughout. Now consisting of 27 holes, Almerimar features wide fairways flanked by leafy trees, which not only provide pleasant shade in summer but also make it considerably more difficult to reach the flag.
A new lake has been built at the 1st tee and all tees, fairways and greens have been re-sown and most of the greens have been increased in size. New bunkers have been built and the 5th and 7th holes and all the original bunkers have been renewed. Some of the tees have now been elevated and the distance from tee to hole has been increased.
Along with updated amenities and practice facilities, the Almerimar course has gone through quite an improvement and is definitely one to play.
